Built in 1878 by Pierce Ligon and purchased by William Henry Carson in 1887, the Carson House is now the oldest occupied house in Pittsburg. Mr. Carson was in the lumber business and also held an interest in a circus and rail line which traveled between Texas and Mexico.
In 1898, Mr. Carson discovered a tract of land containing curly pine trees, a diseased tree with a very unique grain pattern. These trees are now thought to be extinct. He purchased the land and milled the wood. In 1900, the first cut of lumber was used to decorate the inside of this house. The Carson House has over 1 mile of Curly Pine which was painstakingly stripped and refinished during the restoration in 1990.
Operating as both a restaurant and inn since 1991, the Carson House today offers food and beverage unparalleled in East Texas and six beautifully appointed guest rooms for overnight accommodations. One of the suites is located in the rail car on the back of the property and is especially appropriate for these special occasions often celebrated by couples. There are five guest rooms in the main house upstairs. We encourage you to tour the property while you are here. Our team will be happy to show you around.
We welcome you, your family and friends for lunch, dinner and overnight stay. Our goal is to provide a relaxed surrounding as if you were sitting down for a meal at our family's dinner table or spending the night in our home. We also specialize in private parties and catering.
If there is anything we or our friendly team can do to make your experience a lasting, positive memory, please do not hesitate to call on us.
